Be Happy Again (Post-Relationship)

       Sometimes the oceans just get a little stormy, the blue skies turn a little grey, the bed feels a little cold. But why can't we admire the beauty of chaos? Why not dance in the rain a little? Feel the cool, silky sheets running through over our arms? 
     There's no reason why we can't. Breakups can be really hard, but the best way to move on and to be happy again is to learn from it. Here are some tips on how to get over that breakup. 

1) It's Okay. 

Don't forget that it's okay to not feel totally ecstatic or even okay. It happened for a reason. We just have to accept that not every person will treat us the way we deserve, not every door will lead us to where we want, not every path will take us to where we need. But, honestly, it's okay, because pain and emptiness exist so that we can know joy and fulfillment. 

So just remember that this is a just a little detour that will lead you to your final destination. The pain and the sadness won't last forever. I promise. 

2) Acceptance. 

It happened and there's nothing that can be done about it. The past is gone and there's only the future ahead of you. And you mold your future. 

3) Reflection. 

What happened? I mean in your entire relationship. You had laughs, you had dates, you talked until dawn, you had a secret language, you had inside jokes, you had fights, you had tears, you had struggle. What valuable lessons have you learned from this? For example, your love interest ends the relationship. It's easy to feel sadness and even resentment, but you wouldn't be giving the relationship credit. I mean, it's given and taught you something right? Maybe that you need someone more mature or that you are a little too insistent on his not playing video games anymore, etc. We can take every situation, reflect on it, and learn from it. Take the relationship for what it was, respect it, and learn from it. 

4) Carry On. 

The show must go on! You are an amazing person with a lot to offer to the world and to yourself. Do something maybe that you haven't had time for in a long time; maybe that painting you were working on before your significant other came into the picture. Do something new; maybe go on a roadtrip with friends to another state. Go out and do something for yourself and even for your friends. Reconnect with others and reconnect with yourself! 

5) You'll Be Okay. 

It'll be hard not seeing your significant other in the your favorite spots, and thinking about him/her, but know that everything will be okay in the end. And if it's not, it's not the end.

GOOD LUCK. You'll be happy again. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not in a week, but you will be. I promise.
